Ezias Treestrider reporting,
No matter how we deny it, we all live in a world of vanity. Everyone, you and me included, is conceited; the need to look good, the thirst for attention, the never-ending hunger to be on top of everyone else in your status quo.
It’s evil. It’s disgusting. It’s bloody true.
Think about it. When was the last time that you’ve tried to make your friends notice you by making this nasty quip about somebody, by making this joke (Honestly, those jokes are stupid and corny no matter how you think about it.), by trying something new, by over-reacting, or by-god-knows-what that people do?
The honest answer? The last time that you guys got a chance to communicate.
It’s innate. It’s dirty. It’s unstoppable.
Let’s see what conceited means, ok?
Hmmm… according to Webster’s Dictionary:
2 : having or showing an excessively high opinion of oneself
Sad, isn’t it? Sigh…
We all try to be the “best”. To be “better” than everyone else. But in truth, we can never be “better” than that strange hobo on the street that always reaches out to you asking for alms nor can we be better than that tiny roach you crushed before.
Being conceited- being vain… it’s what drives our actions on our everyday lives. When someone seems better than us, we try whatever we can to thwart that person- to rid us of that unnecessary pest-who had just outshone us on a field that’s in our domain.
It makes us tell ourselves lies. Lies that are in some ways true but in most cases otherwise. It clouds our head, creates this large fortification that makes understanding impossible. It makes us do anything to feel secure in this world where security is like an iceberg in the sun and avoid everything that would forge equality and peace when all we need is cooperation, to hold hand upon hand (well… not literally. Obviously <_<).
This is what we were, are and will be. This is what humanity is. This is our sin.
Please. Though this force called vanity is unavoidable, I ask of you people to do what you can to shun its calls- to shut out the voice full of empty promises. It hurts not only you but other people as well (depending on which side you’re on, of course). Let me make myself as an example; I used to be one of those people, following its every beck and call and doing my best to do its orders… It was fun. Yes. Fun for me. But to the people I hurt? I used to be like that in my old school. I poked fun at other people who make small mistakes because they outshone me once or just because they’re different. I grew tired. I found my life empty and saw actions as those of an idiot- and idiot knocking at hell’s gate.
I tried to change but can’t. People in my old school don’t take sudden changes in a stride. They scrutinize it. They talk about it. They think it either false, a cry for attention, or for whatever-hell-wants-them-to-think.
That’s why I moved to this school.
A new life. A fresh start. A whole new person.
It was everything I crave for… It was what I wanted. It was. It was until I was placed on the receiving end.
Seriously. To those who are in the receiving end of those never ending volley of despair-causing projectiles, steel thyself. Remember, the words are empty. No matter how tempting it is to bash them as hard as you can… Just friggin’ ignore them.
To those who shoot those projectiles… I dunno. Up to you. Think about it. Reflect on what you’ve done and are going to do. It may make you feel bad, pathetic, whatever or otherwise… But remember this: Someone out there who’s in the same mind as you would probably hit you with projectiles of their own.
Oh yeah. and please. stop picking on David Ples. He’s a great dude (I mean, atleast he’s a published author <_<). He’s awesome and he did nothing to you. I mean, seriously. Even if it makes you feel good. It’s stupid and pathetic.
Ezias Treestrider, over and out.
